What will be your job?
You will be responsible for the breeding programs for Cucumber (75%) and Squash (25%). Since we started with our cucurbit programs only 2 years ago, these are relatively new programs. This enables you, with all your working experience and knowledge, to shape and fine tune the programs the way you best see fit. In close cooperation with management and sales you will reach the required results, creating new varieties which have the desired characteristics and properties according to the set breeding goals and which meet the needs of our markets.

You will determine and develop the most efficient and effective breeding strategy to achieve your goals. Assessing and selecting the phenotypes in the field and greenhouse, collecting, digitizing and analyzing relevant data in the right way (use of breeding software) or making sure others will do this for you are all part of your job. You deliver the results in such a way that other departments (Sales & Marketing, Procurement) can easily work with them.

You will be travelling regularly to visit trial fields abroad (4-6 weeks per year), maintain contacts with various institutes and attend conferences to expand your knowledge and network.

Who are we looking for?
You have a university/PhD work and thinking level in the field of breeding and genetics, preferably with experience in cucumbers, and have affinity with working with breeding software and MS Office. You have working knowledge of molecular markers, phytopathology and other techniques relevant to the breeding program. You are good at accurately processing, analyzing and discussing information and data. You also have good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, in Dutch and English. Furthermore, you are good at clearly formulating problems and bottlenecks and you are able to independently contact and maintain contacts with various internal departments as well as external institutes and institutions. You are prepared to travel abroad 4-6 weeks per year.

Our offer
We offer an open and international working environment within a small and close team, with room for growth, personal development and interesting primary and secondary terms of employment.
